IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rafael Hidalgo
Jr.
September 19, 1961 – January 16, 2025
Rafael "Ralph" Hidalgo, Jr.
Ralph was born in Houston, Texas on September 19, 1961 and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1979. He worked diligently his entire life, and it all began by helping his dad with odd jobs, always by his side. Once he got a bit older, Ralph moved into sales and spent some time at Foley's, Bap Geon Auto Parts, and GSW Paint Store. He then began his journey with Sherwin Williams Paint Store; a job he held and treasured for over 20 years. He loved sharing his knowledge and expertise, and giving advice to his customers, endearing him to many throughout the Pasadena and Houston area. Unfortunately, after a work accident Ralph's health deteriorated, and he was unable to continue working. Had it been up to him, he would have worked until his last breath. Ralph taught his children not only the importance of hard work, but also the value of building a life at home.
Ralph was married to the love of his life, Carmen, for 43 happy years. He had four sons and one daughter, and a bonus niece and nephew that he considered his own. Ralph was fortunate to have had two families while growing up. Life was rough at times and Ralph experienced more than his share of challenges, but he kept these to himself and made the best of life. Ralph was a strict dad and showed tough love, yet he also demonstrated compassion and kindness. He always lent a helping hand to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. He made sure to instill these values of selflessness unto his children.
Ralph loved coming home after a long day at work, turning on his radio in the garage, and relaxing while tinkering away on some project he had lined up. His true passion was woodworking; he was great at taking wood scraps and making something beautiful out of nothing. He was a great artist, crafting benches, shelves for Carmen's decorations, and furniture pieces for family and friends. Ralph enjoyed watching wrestling matches, and on Fridays he could be found watching WWE Smack Down at home. He liked HGTV and loved voicing his opinion on what people should have done with their houses. He also enjoyed Storage Wars and American Pickers. And no matter how many times he was told he had already seen an episode, he would insist on watching it again. Ralph enjoyed flea markets and local mom-and-pop restaurants. He also loved his Whataburger! He enjoyed sitting down and striking up a conversation with other seniors. Ralph loved live music, and would take his wife and children to small, local concerts throughout town. Rock n Roll and Tejano music at home were a staple growing up, and a fond memory his children will forever cherish.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife Carmen F. Hidalgo; his children Joseph Michael Hidalgo, Sr., Ralph R. Flores, Christina Marie Hidalgo, Anthony Edward Hidalgo, and Christopher Joseph Hidalgo; his niece Amanda Jo Perez and nephew Richard Daryl Rodeman, Jr.; his grandchildren Aurora Flores, Lia Flores, Reina Flores, Hazel Flores, Presley Flores, Joseph Hidalgo, Jr., Jacob Hidalgo, and Joshua Hidalgo; along with countless family and friends.
