Obituary

On Friday, July 10, 2020, one of the brightest lights in the world went out as Helen Flores went to rest in eternal peace with the Lord. Helen was born on September 13, 1950, in Houston, Texas to Eva and Marcelino Saucedo. A lifelong Houston resident, Helen graduated from Austin High School and was married to Hector Flores in 1971.

Helen had a passion for two things in life, helping others and spending time with her family. Helen was employed by the LULAC National Educational Service Center for 35+ years retiring in 2002. While at LULAC Helen worked tirelessly helping students from all walks of life to find the financial resources needed to attend college. As a result of her efforts many of these students went on to complete their educations and have very successful careers of their own. Few things brought more happiness to Helen as spending time with her family both in Houston and San Antonio. Helen was able to combine her two passions later in life by becoming a superhero disguised as the grandmother of her three beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life. Helen never thought of herself and was always there without fail for whatever her boys needed from the simple things like a ride, a sandwich or a bottle to the more difficult and complex things like math homework and advice about life.

Helen was adored by her family and many friends. She had a kind and generous heart, and always put others before herself. Helen was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all whose life she touched. Helen is survived by her husband Hector Flores, two daughters Kristina Gomez and Sonya Flores, three grandsons Kristian Briscoe, Dylan Gomez, and Quinn Alzafari. Brother, Johnny Gonzales and wife Gloria, and sister Joann Gonzales. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Elida Samudio, and parents Eva Gonzales, Johnny Gonzales, and Marcelino Saucedo.
