Obituary

Frances Elaine Mladenka Cudd, our beloved mother and "Old Mammaw," passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on August 30. 2025 in Richmond, Texas. She was born in Houston, Texas, on May 7, 1923, and was a descendant of some of the early pioneers in Houston's history.

After retiring as a school secretary with the Houston Independent School District, Frances moved to the Plum Ridge Community on Lake Sam Rayburn, where she became an active and beloved member of the Plum Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. She found joy and purpose in her unwavering faith as she sang solos during worship services and decorating the church's altar from her garden and local wildflowers. Her beautiful voice touched the hearts of many.

Frances had a deep love for her family and her faith. She spent her days reading her Bible, gardening, sewing, cooking and most of all making sure everyone was fed including the local squirrels and stray animals around her home in the woods.  She was well known within her community and family as a wonderful cook and would make enough fried catfish, sourdough cinnamon rolls and biscotti to share with all.

Frances is survived by her step-son, Harold Cudd of Broaddus, Texas; her two daughters, Karen McMahon and her husband Don McMahon of Houston, Texas, and Kathleen Edmondson and her husband David Edmondson of Richmond, Texas; her grandchildren, Troy McMahon, Lindsay McMahon, Mason Edmondson and his wife Amanda, Hunter Edmondson and his wife Janet, and Jamison Edmondson and her husband Luiz Garcia. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.  All will cherish her legacy of love, faith and family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Cudd; her brother, C.V. Mladenka; her sister, Lorraine Deaton; and her step-son, Charlie Cudd.

A celebration of her life was held at a private graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

Memorial donations may be made to Plum Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Zavalla, Texas
