Obituary

David Britton Clay, born on December 15, 1946, in Houston, TX, passed away on January 19, 2026, in Alvin, TX, at the age of 79.

Dave served his country with honor as a Sergeant E5 in the United States Marine Corps (1963-1968). His military career included two tours as a Scout Dog Handler in the Vietnam War, for which he received the Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (1 star), and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Beyond his military service, Dave found joy as a member of St. John's Catholic men's group, where he made close friends that helped him to grow in his Catholic faith.

He loved the rodeo, cleaning stalls, and camping at Caddo Lake with the whole family. Watching Ellen Grace and Kascey Marie barrel race always brought a smile to his face.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents John Britton Clay Jr. & Naomi McGaughey and his brother Lewis Clay.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Joni Clay; siblings, Sherry Hall, Donna LeBouef, Clyde Sligar, and Monica Ainsworth; children, Serena and Joe Casas, Kelly Clay Fullerton, Ellen Grace and Joseph Waggoner; and grandchildren, Lance and Andrea Clay, Brandon and Andrea Karge, Payton, Cassidy, and Kascey Marie – along with countless nieces and nephews. All of which, he had endless love for.

His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on January 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin, TX. A Rosary Service will be held immediately prior at 10:00 AM.
