Blas C. Rodriguez Jr.
Blas C. Rodriguez Jr., 88, passed away peacefully in his home in South Houston, TX on April 22, 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, 8706 Almeda Genoa Rd., Houston, Texas 77075. Thursday, April 29, 2021, a short visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 1 p.m., Forest Lawn Cemetery , 8601 Almeda Genoa Rd., Houston, Texas 77075.
Blas was born in Corpus, Christi, TX on January 22, 1933 and graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1952. After graduating from high school, he joined the Marines and took his basic training at Camp Pendleton in California. He was in Platoon 473 USMC San Diego of 1952. He was deployed to Okinawa Japan in the Third Marine Division Band Fleet Marine Force. While in the marines he attained the rank of Sergeant and traveled to many parts of the world.
After returning from the service, he married his sweetheart, Leonor Martinez, who was patiently waiting for him 1957. His first child was born in 1959 and he then moved his small family to South Houston, Tx in 1960 and lived there for the rest of his life.
Blas worked as a master machinist for Cameron Iron Works for many years. He enjoyed wood working, fishing, camping, and working on his many collections. He was a gifted guitar player and loved to perform for his family, friends and church. He was a big sports fan and loved to watch his old cowboy shows on the television.
He was survived by his two sons, Blas C. Rodriguez III, Arnold Rodriguez and wife Sara and his daughter Laura Hendricks, his eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is survived by his three sisters, Sonia H. Castillo, Sylvia H. Mireles and Alicia C. Mauricio and many nephew and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Leonor M. Rodriguez, his parents, Blas S. Rodriguez Sr. and Matilde C. Rodriguez. His brothers Richard C. Rodriguez and Jose G. Rodriguez.
Blas was loved by most and will be missed by many.
