On February 2, 1942 in Barranquilla, Colombia, Alvaro Manuel Brieva was born to Manuel Francisco and Olga M. Brieva. He was called home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2023. He is survived by his wife Maria Elma F. Brieva of 34 years, sons Richard Brieva, Alvaro Brieva, William Brieva, daughters Carmen Taveras and Diana Rodriguez, siblings Rigoberto Brieva, Ana Villalba, Miguel Brieva, Olga (Nena) Bustos, Osvaldo Brieva, Manuel Brieva, Yadira Barria, and Ricardo Brieva. Along with grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved nieces Cindy Villalba, and Vivian Bustos-Nunez.

Alvaro will be remembered as a kind, generous and loving person who touched the hearts of all that knew him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and especially his great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his Houston Astros, and his favorite Colombian soccer team Junior F.C. His past times included creating and building innovative inventions to make life easier for his wife. Once he retired he enjoyed fishing in Galveston, listening to music and making CD's for family and friends. Most of all Alvaro enjoyed time with his family and bringing smiles and laughter to his great grandchildren and watching the Houston Astros with his daughters.

The Brieva family thank you for the outpouring of love and sympathy and while our hearts are broken we are comforted in knowing he is dancing merengue in heaven.
